The Best Gift

5

This morning when I woke up, I knew there was something special about today but I couldn’t quite remember.  I even circled it on the calendar.  What was going on today?

Oh!  Today is my mom’s bearthday.  I totally forgot!  I went to my piggy bank and dumped out everything that was inside.  I counted the money that I had.  It was 67 cents.  I frowned.  That wouldn’t be enough to buy her anything.
Ooogie also chipped in with his allowance, but it was still not beary much.
“Oh no!  What will I do, Ooogie?” I said worriedly.  “Maybe I will ask Uncle Tibbs for some money to borrow.”
Uncle Tibbs happened to be walking by with his morning tea.
“Uncle Tibbs,” I said.  “Could I borrow some money from you please?”

“Sure, Ajdin,” he said, “but what do you want to buy?”

“Well…uh…” I said, “I forgot that today is my mom’s bearthday and I recently bought a new fishing pole so I don’t have any money to buy her a nice gift.”
“Ah, I see,” Uncle Tibbs said, stirring some honey into his tea.  “Well that’s beary thoughtful of you Ajdin, but you know, the best gifts don’t cost anything.”
“What do you mean?” I asked.
“You don’t have to buy a gift,” he continued.  He took a sip of tea.  “You can make a card or create something really unique from your little bear imagination.  Those are the best gifts.  And they’re free.”
So I got some paper and crayons and began brainstorming.  Maybe I would draw a picture.  Maybe I would write a poem.  Whatever I was going to create, I wanted it to be epic.
Suddenly, inspiration struck me like a bee sting.  I scribbled down my idea on the paper.
Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
I love honey,
But not as much as you

I am going to give this card to my mom right now.  I hope she likes it!
(Maybe I could start a line of greeting cards, what do you think?)
